Mechanic / Shop

Position Description

Work to maintain and repair construction equipment, from heavy earthmovers to small tool equipment, gravel trains to light duty pickups, and on-road and off-road vehicles. Our team is both stationary at our shop location and mobile on our projects.

IAFRATE CONSTRUCTION HAS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • Heavy equipment shop mechanics
  • Heavy equipment field mechanics
  • Truck mechanics
  • Small tool mechanics
  • Oilers and greasers

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on classification)

  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, rock trucks, scrapers, broom tractors, miscellaneous attachments, and pull behind machinery (mixers, generators, light plants, air compressors) as well as small engines
  • Repair and maintain multiple brands, makes, and models of heavy trucks, dump trailers, light duty pickups, water trucks, and miscellaneous trailers
  • Repair and maintain electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems, undercarriages, powertrains drivetrains and other equipment
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and complete repairs in a productive timeframe
  • Perform preventative maintenance and service units with proper products and greasing machines
  • Work efficiently and follow safety standards
  • Order parts and communicate with vendors
  • Manage multiple projects
  • Use a computer for diagnostics, analyzing and troubleshooting
  • Utilize software to record and document repairs and tasks performed, along with submitting daily accountability
  • Assist others with completing tasks as needed
  • Work 40-50+ hours per week, Saturdays as needed (usually a rotation)

MECHANIC QUALIFICATIONS (depending on classification)

  • Experience in the heavy equipment and maintenance field
  • Able to read and understand printed and online schematics, troubleshooting guides, and service and parts manuals
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems, as well as powertrains and drivetrains
  • Understand diesel and gasoline engines
  • Computer skills for diagnostics, analyzing, and troubleshooting
  • Understand Caterpillar sis2.0 and its functions including ordering parts and Cat E.T. software to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Highschool diploma or G.E.D.
  • Any additional schooling or certification that applies to our industry is a plus
  • Welding skills a plus but not required
  • Have own tools (for heavy equipment, trucks, and small tools, specialty tools not a must)
  • Good attendance and eager for projects
  • Capable of, but not limited to lifting 75 lbs. or more safely
  • Good driving record and CDL-B (some vehicles only a chauffeur license endorsement)
  • Able to work in varying weather temperatures and conditions
  • Provide or pass DOT physical
