Detroit Entertainment and Event Center Mass Excavation

The Detroit Entertainment and Event Center is better known as the future home of the Detroit Red Wings.

This project began in April of 2015 with excavation of 488,000 cyd of material. AICC worked as a part of the Blaze-Iafrate Joint Venture on this project. The excavated material was loaded into gravel trains and hauled to nearby landfills. The result was 35’ deep hole for the future arena.

After concrete walls were placed portions of the arena were backfilled with EPS 46 Geofoam blocks to allow work outside of the arena to start sooner.

Upon completion of the structure the entire arena will be backfilled with 130,000 cyd of sand.

Due to the critical schedule of the project work took place 6 days a week with extended work hours. The mass excavation was completed ahead of schedule.
