Ford Rouge DDMP Phase 1

Angelo Iafrate Construction was contracted by Walbridge for the Ford Rouge DDMP Fire Protection and City Water Upgrade project located at the historic For Rouge Complex in Dearborn, Michigan. In order to provide service to the newly renovated Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant (DDMP), Iafrate along with its fire protection subcontractor Shambaugh and Sons, installed 2,500 ft of city water line and over 5,000 of fire water line including all new appurtenances; gate valves & wells, hydrants, PIV’s and protective bollards. The project also required three separate bore & jacks to avoid exiting underground obstructions. Because the Ford Rouge Complex operates 24/7, Iafrate had to work closely with Walbridge and the project Owners (Ford Motor and Severstal Steel) to not only schedule but also execute the work with minimal disruption to existing operations.

The installation of the new city and fire water lines required the removal and replacement of M-Road, the main north/south roadway servicing both the DDMP and the Dearborn Tool & Die Plant (DTDP). For this portion of the work, Iafrate was contracted directly by Ford Land Development and was responsible for the removal and replacement of the concrete roadway. Iafrate worked with Ford and their Engineer (SME Inc.) to VAVE and Alternate Paving Section consisting of 9” of non-reinforced concrete pavement over 6” of aggregate base over 12” of cement treated base.
