This $13,632,734 Vehicle Recovery Course (VRC) Project will allow armored vehicles to drive the 4 mile concrete Ring Road (30 feet wide), along with a series of interior concrete roadways accounting for an additional 1 mile (15 feet wide).

During this project Angelo Iafrate Construction Company’s (AICC) scope is self-performing all earth work, underground utilities, grading, and concrete pavement work. The total land disturbance was 127 acres and the land balancing operation totaled over 350,000 cubic yards.

Also installed was a total of 3,800 feet of sanitary sewer, 4,700 feet of water main, 3,000 feet of storm sewer (12 inch to 60 inch), and two multi-plate arch culverts throughout the site.

The mainline concrete was paved with a Gomaco GP 2600 slipform followed by a T/C 600 (Gomaco cure texture machine) that were put through extreme challenges. Throughout the VRC, AICC paved up and down slopes that were up to 15 degrees with tight radius under 50 feet, including S-Curves, and various other concrete test events which are designed to instruct trainees on the maneuverability of tanks in real life situations. Although the limits of the pavers were reached, AICC managed to produce a quality ride and stayed within a ¼ inch tolerance on a 12 foot straightedge test with no abruptions in any direction.

AICC completed its portion of the VRC work on budget and ahead of schedule.
