GM Hamtramck Phase 2 Ship Yard

On the GM Hamtramck Phase 2 Ship Yard project Angelo Iafrate Construction Company was a subcontractor who was responsible for the concrete paving.

This project involved the placement of 13,500 syd of 8” Concrete Pavement. The design for the project called for dowel baskets on the transverse contraction joints and dowels on the longitudinal construction joint.

The paving for the project was done by a Gomaco 2600 Slip-form paver that was ran using string-less technology. The burlap texture on the concrete was applied by a Gomaco T/C-600. The Top Con 3D Millimeter System that was used to guide the concrete paver was also used on the equipment for the fine grading of the aggregate base.

Upon placement of the pilot lanes, over 8,700 dowels were drilled and epoxied to create the longitudinal construction joint. The complexity of the project came from the bowl style drainage design which made paving around the inlet structure difficult. The construction work also took place in close proximity to new production vehicles.
